2017 is proving to be a difficult year for the anglers participating in the EWC. Although every team checked in with 4 fish each, an EWC first, the big fish were few and far between. Team 3, Les Morrison and Oliver Gibbons managed to pull in the Big Fiah of the day weighing 3.84 lbs which contributed to their total weight of 7.13 lbs putting them at the top of the Leader Board after Day 1. To bring a little perspective to the size of fish that were brought in today, the Big Fish last year weighed a whopping 8.79 lbs. Les and Oliver are no strangers to being on top, together they were the 2012 champions and Oliver was the champion of the inaugural tournament in 2002 winning it with Harvey Cochrane.

Spots 2, 3 and 4 are all filled with father/son teams vying for the first ever Elmer Haglin Family Award. Sitting in second place after Day 1 is Team 4, Dan & Josh Pollard with a total weight of 6.46 lbs. At third is Team 28, Todd & Kalin Grennier with 6.40 lbs and with 6.06 lbs is Team 22 Dale & Curtis Hartlin. Rounding out the top 5 is Team 11, Doug McBride and Steve Ballan with 5.69 lbs. With every team bringing in 4 fish, the Day 1 Three-fer and Two-fer were not given out, so the prize money will be carried over to tomorrow, making the Day 2 Three-fer and Two-fer worth $500.00.

Despite the frustation felt by some anglers with their Day 1 weights, it’s still anyone’s battle to win tomorrow. Make sure you get to the arena to watch the Top Ten teams be pulled through the arena!
